UCL is a radically different university. The Faculty of Medical Sciences is the most clinically facing Faculty at UCL and is at the forefront of innovation and research in the medical sciences. UCL is ranked first in the UK for research power in medicine, health and life sciences (REF 2021), and is ranked 6th in the world and 1st in London for Medicine (QS World University Rankings
by Subject 2024).

UCL is currently looking to appoint their next Dean of the Faculty of Medical Sciences. Responsible for the strategic leadership and management of the Faculty, the Dean will contribute to the delivery of strategic objectives and will be a recognised academic leader in their discipline. The Dean is responsible to Council, via the Vice Provost,
Faculties and the Provost, for the organisation and general conduct of the Faculty, and will be accountable for the direction, execution, and championing of the Faculty’s academic mission and values through its constituent Divisions.

Candidates will be expected to demonstrate exceptional academic leadership, a proven ability to navigate a large complex organisation, and a commitment to furthering the Faculty’s research standing. They will need to possess significant experience of effectively participating in the administration of a large, complex organisation. They will need to be decisive and results-oriented, with the ability to encourage participation, responsibility and accountability.
