Society colleagues in attendance at Responsible Business Week 2013

Business leaders from across the country converged on the Guidhall in central London between 15th to 19th April to take part in Responsible Business Week. Society was in attendance to hear stories about the transformational impact that business can have on communities and individuals, and to meet some of the people who are pioneering the integration responsible behaviour into business practice.

Among the highlights was a discussion during the opening plenary session on Tuesday between leading retail consultant Mary Portas, and Alex Gourlay, CEO of the Health and Beauty Division at Alliance Boots. Together they have launched a new BITC High Street Champion initiative which aims to increase corporate involvement in struggling UK high streets. Each of the leading high street brands who have committed to the scheme so far (Boots UK, The Co-operative Group, JD Wetherspoon, Lloyds Banking Group, Marks & Spencer, Wilkinsons and Post Office) will be matched to one or more town centres in need of regeneration to use their unique expertise to develop creative and innovative ways to make town centres thrive again.
