Give & Gain Day 2014 (sponsored by Society) launches with style at the top of the BT Tower
Thousands of employees from businesses across the UK are now being urged to sign up to Give & Gain Day 2014 – the world’s only annual day of employee volunteering. Give & Gain Day encourages people across the globe to spend a working day volunteering for good causes in their local community. Now in its sixth year, the event will see its 100,000th person take part and volunteer in their community on Friday 16th May. The run-up to 2014 event, administered by the charity Business in the Community, was formally launched at the BT Tower last night.
Society is proud to be sponsoring Give & Gain Day for the second year running, alongside Lloyds Banking Group, and Waitrose, and in association with BT and ITV.
Businesses across the UK contain legions of skilled, experienced and energetic employees who are all potential volunteers. By getting unprecedented numbers of people out volunteering on one day, Give & Gain Day aims to raise awareness of the talent and skills found in UK business, highlight the genuine appetite amongst business to help communities prosper, and encourage many more businesses to get involved in volunteering all year round.
Simon Lucas, Society’s Managing Director commented: “It’s encouraging to see so many charities, Wooden Spoon, Kids Company, Catch 22 and many others, take advantage of Give & Gain Day and the resources business volunteers offer. The impact Give & Gain Day can have is really profound. There’s the short term benefits of community organisations and charities getting an event run, or their website improved, but there’s also a fundamental exchange happening. Businesses are getting exposed to the issues that community organisations are grappling with on their doorstep, and the community organisations are getting exposed to business ways of thinking and acting.”
