University of Essex makes key academic appointment to Journalism discipline
Journalism is a new and exciting area of study and research at Essex, launched at a time when the media is undergoing profound changes. Under the leadership of Professor Jonathan Baker, Journalism is rapidly growing at Essex. With new, exciting undergraduate and postgraduate programmes, Essex is training the next generation of journalists across all media - radio, television, print, online and social networks - to find and tell stories that are powerful and engaging.
As they continue to grow, so too will their research in the broadest fields of journalism, with new appointments to make key contributions to the next REF and beyond.
Society undertook a global search for individuals who could marry research excellence with a passion for teaching, engagement with the changing media landscape and values that would find a fit with those of the University.
The University have subsequently appointed Dr Emma Briant to the position of Senior Lecturer in Journalism. Dr Briant is currently on a year-long visiting appointment at George Washington University in the US pursuing research projects on propaganda and other issues. Dr Briant is also a Lecturer in Journalism at the University of Sheffield having formerly worked at the University of Glasgow.
Dr Briant will join the University of Essex on 1st August 2017.
