The International Federation of Library Associations (IFLA) appoints a new Secretary General

The International Federation of Library Associations & Institutions (IFLA) is the global voice of libraries, representing the interests of the library and information profession and working to improve library services worldwide. Their vision is of a strong and united library field powering literate, informed and participative societies. IFLA’s divisional structure enables membership voices, their vibrant professional community, and partners across six regions to define their global priorities, and to embed practical actions and policies around the world in support of these goals.

Society supported IFLA in this search for a dynamic, well-networked and globally experienced leader with a comprehensive understanding of and affinity with the global library sector. The search focused on global library associations, higher education institutions, and individuals speaking or presenting at international library or literacy events.

Sharon Memis has over thirty years’ experience in international leadership experience across the public, private and not-for-profit sectors. With 11 years at the British Council and 4 years with the Commonwealth Association of Universities, Sharon knows the library sector well and also brings an impressive background in fundraising, effective change management and executive leadership.

We are delighted to have been able to support IFLA and Sharon in this appointment, and wish her all the very best in her new position!
