The Army Families Federations appoints new Chief Executive

Collette Musgrave has been appointed to Chief Executive of the Army Families Federation.

The Army Families Federation (AFF) is the independent voice of Army families and works hard to improve the quality of life for Army families around the world on any aspect that is affected by the Army lifestyle. AFF recently embarked on a transformation process to become a more centralised, digitised, research and evidence led charity. Former CEO Sara Baade significantly raised the profile and sustainability of AFF, and this change process will ensure that the charity remains agile and well equipped to support the needs of the modern Army family.

Our search heavily targeted not for profit organisations within the UK, focusing on strategic individuals strong on stakeholder relations, income generation, leadership and governance. We also sought out those well equipped to lead through change, with the empathy to support the AFF team during the ongoing transformation process. Beyond the charity sector, we explored interest from those leading business operations with links to the services and/or charity sectors.

Collette was Chief Operating Officer at AFF prior to taking on her new appointment as Chief Executive. She joined AFF in 2017 from the public sector, where she developed a background in strategic planning, policy development and management. She worked as a civil servant in the Ministry of Defence, and in postings to the Cabinet Office and HM Treasury, before serving as a Royal Air Force Officer for five years.

Collette said:

“I’m very honoured to take up the role as the new Chief Executive of the Army Families Federation. Everyone at AFF is committed to improving the quality of life for Army families, through providing advice and guidance, and pressing for policy change – I am proud to be working with a dedicated and experienced team. We will continue to work hard on behalf of all Army families to ensure their voice is heard.”

Julia Warren, Chair of Trustees, said:

“I, and the Trustees, are very pleased to announce Collette’s appointment as the new Chief Executive of AFF. She brings the skill and experience to build on the excellent work of her predecessor, and to ensure that AFF continues to go from strength to strength as the independent voice of Army families.”
