The Aga Khan Agency for Habitat has hired a new Climate Smart Construction Programme Lead

Hristo Dikanski has been appointed as Climate Smart Construction Programme Lead at the Aga Khan Agency for Habitat.

Sitting within the Aga Khan Development Network (AKDN), Aga Khan Agency for Habitat (AKAH) works to ensure that people who live in physical settings are as safe as possible from the effects of natural disasters; that residents who do live in such high risk areas are able to cope with disasters in terms of preparedness and response; and that these settings provide access to social and financial services that lead to greater opportunities and a better quality of life.

A brand new role, the Climate Smart Construction Programme Lead to research the ways and means and develop guidelines for mainstreaming climate change adaptation and resilience in AKDN construction and development programmes, to achieve a goal to reduce the carbon footprint of AKDN construction programmes throughout its global operations.

Society conducted a global search across both the private and not for profit sectors, looking across NGOs and sustainability consultancies for candidates with a background in architecture or engineering who demonstrated the relevant technical credentials in green construction, as well as skills in strategic oversight of climate smart thinking and strong stakeholder management.

Dr Hristo Dikanski has a background in civil engineering with a focus on climate change adaptation. He previously worked as a Research Engineer at Network Rail and later a Climate Change Consultant at Arup.

Hristo commented,

‘I am excited to join the Aga Khan Agency for Habitat and lead the Programme for Climate-Smart Construction across the Network. AKDN is uniquely positioned to lead the climate change agenda for the international development sector and I am looking forward to being part of this process.

It was a pleasure working with Society Search in finding my new role. I would particularly like to thank Shehrazade, who was very supportive and ensured the process ran smoothly from start to finish.’
