Royal Star & Garter appoints new Finance Governor to their board

The Board of Royal Star & Garter welcomes Asoka Karandawala to the team, who joins them as a Finance Governor.

Royal Star & Garter is a vibrant charity and regulated care provider.  They offer a range of high-quality care and therapies to veterans and their partners living with disability or dementia. The three homes in Solihull, Surbiton and High Wycombe offer residents a new lease of life through specialist nursing care and a varied activity programme.

After successfully appointing four new Governors to their Board last year, Society were approached again by Royal Star to find an experienced finance professional to support their Treasurer. Management consulting, healthcare and higher education were highlighted as areas of particular interest, and so this is where our search focused.

Asoka Karandawala began his career in accounting and audit consulting before becoming the CFO of Cromwell Hospital. He then spent twenty years working on a consulting basis for a variety of finance strategy engagements across a range of organisations.

Asoka shared ‘“I am delighted to join the Board of Governors of Royal Star & Garter, which provides care for veterans and their partners. Established in 1916 to care for the severely injured young men returning from the battlegrounds of the First World War, today it has state of the care homes and provide specialist nursing, dementia, and therapeutic care. Going through tremendous change over the last two decades, the organisation has been expanding its services and I am looking forward to working with the team and contributing to this.

I was approached by several charitable organisations to join as a Trustee and was undecided about this role but after discussions with Alyce at Society, decided to meet with the RSG team and was very impressed with the services they provide. I thank Alyce for her time and professionalism which helped in my decision to join the Board.”
