Royal Institute of British Architects appoints a new Head of Collections
Following an international search, the Royal Institute of British Architects (RIBA) has recently appointed Dr Kent Rawlinson as the new Head of Collections for the British Architectural Library.
The Royal Institute of British Architects (RIBA) is the pre-eminent organisation dedicated to the advancement of architecture and to the promotion of excellence in the profession. Since its foundation is 1834, the RIBA has encompassed the British Architectural Library – one of the largest and most important collections of architectural drawings, photographs and archives in the world.
Dr Rawlinson will be tasked with leading the onward development, management and promotion of the BAL’s collections. Dr Rawlinson has spent the past nine years working as Curator of Historic Buildings at Hampton Court Palace, which belongs to Historic Royal Palaces. He has been pivotal in communicating and increasing knowledge of the architecture and history of Hampton Court. Dr Rawlinson is also a keen academic and studied at the University of Oxford for an M.A (Hons) in Modern History and an M.St in Historical Research (Medieval). In 2007 he gained his Ph.D. from Durham University in ‘The English Household Chapel, c.1100 - c.1500: An Institutional Study’.
