New Pro Vice Chancellor to join Swansea University
Swansea University will be welcoming Professor Martin Stringer in May 2015 to take up the post of Pro Vice Chancellor (Research) with particular strategic oversight of Arts, Humanities and Social Sciences.
Professor Stringer joins us from the University of Birmingham, where he is the Deputy Pro-Vice Chancellor with responsibility for staffing and planning. He brings a wealth of leadership experience in areas including teaching and learning, community engagement, and staff planning and development.
Formerly the Head of the College of Arts and Law at the University of Birmingham, where he laid the foundation for a significant uplift in grant capture, Professor Stringer's academic areas of interest lie in the anthropology of contemporary religion; liturgy; and the boundaries between anthropology, African art and tourism.
Professor Richard B. Davies, Vice Chancellor of Swansea University, said:
"We look forward to Professor Stringer joining the Senior Management Team, to build on the tremendous REF 2014 results achieved in Arts, Humanities and Social Sciences at Swansea, and to help drive the exciting plans for the enhancement of the Singleton Campus."
Professor Stringer said:
"This is clearly a very exciting time for Swansea University following the REF results and the opportunities offered by the campus developments. I am greatly looking forward to working with colleagues across the University to meet the challenges ahead."
