London College of Fashion appoints Professor of Fashion Cultures and Histories

Professor Shahidha Bari has been appointed to the position of Professor of Fashion Cultures and Histories at the London College of Fashion.

London College of Fashion is one of the foremost centres of fashion education in the world, consistently regarded as one of the world’s top five fashion schools by most ranking tables. It has been leading international fashion education from the start, partnering with institutions in countries all over the world and delivering opportunities, specialist courses and the chance for students and staff to exchange knowledge and cultural value. The College’s strategic relationships support an ever-evolving global fashion industry worth billions. The Professor of Fashion Cultures and Histories required an individual who could come in and provide ambitious academic direction in the development, and subsequent leadership, of a new Cultural and Historical Studies Hub at the London College of Fashion.

Society conducted a global search on behalf of LCF for this crucial role, engaging individuals with significant experience of academic leadership, through collaborative research and involvement with relevant professional bodies and societies, with the ability to demonstrate, motivate and lead effectively, setting the direction of one or more function to promote collaboration across formal boundaries.

Prior to joining LCF, Professor Bari was a Senior Lecturer, Department of English at QMUL. Joining QMUL in 2007, initially as a Teaching Assistant in English, Professor Bari held various roles across QMUL during her time there, including Lecturer in English. Educated at King’s College, Cambridge, she is one of the regular presenters of the BBC Radio 3 arts and ideas programme ‘Free Thinking’ and an occasional presenter of BBC Radio 4's ‘Front Row’.
