Colette McWilliams appointed as the Founding Head of School at Hiba Academy Bay Area

Colette McWilliams appointed as the Founding Head of School at Hiba Academy Bay Area.

The newest member of Wellington College Education, Hiba Academy Bay Area is part of a global network of schools united by a 160-year history of excellence with roots in the UK. Set to open in Fall 2026, they are a bilingual international school that will serve Pre-K to Grade 5 students. At capacity, approximately 400 children will thrive in a dual-language educational environment, where they will learn English and Chinese not as discrete academic subjects but as languages of instruction across the curriculum. They plan to expand to a full Pre-K to grade 12 provision in the longer term as the learning community grows.

Society partnered with Hiba Academy Bay Area to make this appointment. We were tasked with identifying a Head of School who aligned deeply with the school's values and could play a critical role in ensuring the successful opening of the school, it was also important that they had deep experience with Bilingual Education.

Colette’s most recent role was as the Head of Elementary at Trinity School in Menlo Park. Originally from Scotland, she has had a international career with a strong grounding in bilingual education and the International Baccalaureate program.

Colette will be starting with Hiba Academy Bay area in late 2025.

When asked for comment, she had this to say:

"I am thrilled to be joining Hiba Academy as its Founding Head of School and becoming part of the wider Wellington network. My passion lies in creating globally minded, bilingual learning environments where students thrive through inquiry, cultural connection, and a deep sense of belonging. This role presents an incredible opportunity to bring that vision to life in San Francisco, and I look forward to working alongside students, families, and educators to build a vibrant, inclusive school community that fosters curiosity, bridges cultures, and empowers students to navigate the world with confidence.

Throughout the search and interview process, the team at Society was incredibly helpful, accessible, and supportive. From the very start, they put me at ease, providing clear and actionable feedback that made me feel truly supported. I always felt as though they were on my team—championing me and ensuring I was well-prepared at every stage. By the end of the process, I had built strong connections with the team, and in some ways, I was even sad for our collaboration to end. Anyone who has the opportunity to work with them is truly fortunate. It was a pleasure working with Society, and I am grateful for their expertise and encouragement along the way."

Society wishes Colette all the very best in her new role.
