Charleston hires new Chair of Trustees

Pippa Harris has been hired as Chair of the Board of Trustees at the Charleston Trust.

Charleston is a historical site and was home to Duncan Grant and Vanessa Bell, as well as a gathering spot for the Bloomsbury Group. It is now a pioneering public space for art and culture, championing experimental thinking, liberal values and social inclusion. Looking to build back post-Covid and rethink how it positions its brand, the Trust was seeking a Chair to work with the Board and the Chief Executive to help steer them towards their next chapter.

Society conducted a broad search primarily across the arts, heritage and cultural sector, such as galleries, museums, arts charities, theatres, local government bodies, publishing and media. We sought out senior, established professionals within these spaces, both as potential candidates as well as sources of advice and recommendations. We prioritised those who had existing board experience and who demonstrated significant strategic experience and networks within this space.

Dame Pippa Harris is an award-winning film and television producer. She established Neal Street Productions in 2003 and was previously Head of Drama Commissioning at the BBC. Most recently she served as Chair/Deputy Chair of BAFTA and is an Ambassador for Women for Women International. She has served on the Charleston Board since 2015.
