New Head of School for Abaarso School of Science & Technology

The Abaarso Network has appointed Chris Green as the next Head of School for the Abaarso School of Science and Technology, starting this summer.

Abaarso School of Science & Technology (Abaarso School) is the flagship institution of the Abaarso Network, a system of educational institutions dedicated to educating and empowering a new generation of leaders for Somaliland, East Africa. Established in 2009, the Abaarso School delivers an American-style curriculum to around 280 students across grades 7 – 12. Students reside on campus for the duration of their studies, and a significant proportion of them matriculate to some of the world’s best-regarded universities.

This was a highly specialised search for a school leader with experience in mission-led organisations based in low- and middle-income settings. Chris is currently based in Tanzania, where he holds the position of Head of Residential Life at UWC East Africa. Several Abaarso alumni actually attend UWC East Africa, giving Chris valuable insight into the Abaarso model. Earlier in his career, Chris spent four years leading Bilkent Laboratory and International School (BLIS) in Ankara, Turkey, as General Director. His other experience includes leading Upper and Middle Schools, as well as teaching the IB at famous international schools in Prague and Dusseldorf.

Chris will be moving to Somaliland with his wife, Kate, a guidance counsellor and IB Art teacher, and their son.

On working with Society, Chris commented: “Working with Conor was a pleasure.  I felt that I had a partner throughout the process, both professionally and personally. I felt as though he and the team at Society were active and informed advocates for both my interests and those of Abaarso.”
